UPI News Update – December 22, 2025: Remaining 2025 Holiday Events and Upcoming New Year 2026 Events

Dear UPI Team, Friends, and Valued Supporters:

My wife and I are glad to share that we are back home, safe and sound, after a 14‑day Asian cruise. We sincerely apologize for missing many of our community partners’ holiday celebrations over the past three weeks. We hope that each and every one of your events was successful, joyful, and memorable.

We also missed UPI’s annual co-sponsorship of our uniquely Filipino tradition of Simbang Gabi—a cherished Christmas devotion consisting of nine consecutive evening Masses, usually held from December 15 to December 23. This year, the first Mass that UPI co-hosted was celebrated on December 16th at St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in National City.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to reconnecting with all of you as we continue our holiday activities and community service.

Tomorrow night, December 23rd, UPI will co-sponsor another Simbang Gabi celebration at the Church of the Most Precious Blood, located at 1245 4th Avenue, Chula Vista. This is the final night of Simbang Gabi, and it will also be the only night at this parish with a free community dinner following the Mass. As tradition goes, the sponsors and hosts will provide the food and drinks for everyone to share.
Mass begins at 6:00 pm. We warmly invite you to join us for both the Mass and the dinner celebration.
During this Simbang Gabi, UPI will also present our annual $500 donation to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI), a Catholic order serving the poor and abandoned—especially children—in Tijuana, Mexico. This donation is given through the OMI priests serving at the Church of the Most Precious Blood.

UPI Annual Holiday Member & Supporters Appreciation Luncheon
Saturday, December 27th at 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
Buffet House – 651 Palomar Avenue, Chula Vista

This is our final holiday event of the season. While we will not have a formal program, we kindly ask everyone attending to observe the simple guidelines below so we can all enjoy a smooth and joyful celebration:
• Please arrive on time at 11:00 am. We will line up and take a headcount before entering the restaurant.
• Take your seat first (open seating) in the reserved back room before getting your food. Once everyone is seated, we will offer a short welcome and prayer of thanks before beginning the luncheon.
• Be attentive and respectful during our brief presentation of certificates of appreciation, and whenever someone is speaking—especially any guests who may wish to share a few words.
Thank you for your continued support and for helping make our community events meaningful and memorable throughout this remarkable year of 2025.
As we prepare to welcome 2026, we look forward to your renewed support in creating a positive and lasting impact in our community. To begin the new year—also the Year of the Horse in the Chinese Zodiac—please take a moment to review our upcoming UPI events and activities:

In just nine days, we will say goodbye to 2025 and welcome 2026. We wish everyone a very Happy and Prosperous New Year, and we hope that—whenever possible—we continue to share our time, talent, and treasure (TTT) to make a meaningful difference in our communities.

To inspire us as we enter the New Year, here are a few reflections:

Rainer Maria Rilke:
“And now we welcome the new year. Full of things that have never been.”

Michael Josephson:
“Approach the New Year with resolve to find the opportunities hidden in each new day.”

Albert Einstein:
“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.”

Until the next UPI News Update.  Please share this update to those who may not be on the email distribution list.
We hope to see you soon.

Very respectfully,

TeddyTeddy C. DatuinUPI President & CEO
